HOW TO STORE YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS || A tale of lost wedding photos from Monique and Jordan || ANNA SMITH PHOTOGRAPHY || DALLAS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Today I am so excited to share a sad and happy story and advice. Monique contacted me with some devastating news – she had lost the drive with her stored wedding photos and did not print nor save any of her 2014 gorgeous pictures. My dear brides, learn from Monique!! ๐Ÿ˜€ Don’t do that! Ha

Luckily I was able to look back through my archives and they were still in tact. This was special to me as I got to have a look back almost 3 years ago to my work! What a treat ๐Ÿ˜€ So here is how I store photos, and here is advice on how to store your wedding photos from a pro:

Download your photos IMMEDIATELY from any zip file // disc // CD // or USB or whatever medium your photos came on. This ensures that these files are actually intact and you are able to store them. Photographers do not keep delivered photos much longer and it is likely you will not be able to recover them months down the road, not to mention years.

After you download them on to your computer purchase 2 external hard drives and a USB drive. Yes, 3 external media drives. I use the Western Digital hard drives to store everything to. Put them all in a safe place wrapped in bubble wrap. This will ensure to lessen any damage. If you drop external hard drives most of the data can be lost and unrecoverable. Our photos have become digital. So PRINT THEM. Please print your gorgeous photos. Order albums. Something tangible and something you can hold. There is so much more to these memories than a computer screen.

With that being said, here is great and amazing happy ending to this story! Monique and Jordan get to still have all these beautiful memories from their big day. Here is to reliving a few moments again!! Cheers! Feel free to share ๐Ÿ™‚

xoxo,

Anna

  1. I actually was thinking about contacting you about the same thing. In our move last year, I either misplaced my jump drive or it could be somewhere at my mom’s (we’re not in contact). Hoping it turns up ๐Ÿ˜•
